Sumo Morning Practice & Cultural Experience in Nishiarai, Tokyo

Overview

• Observe professional wrestlers during morning training and learn about sumo etiquette and traditions. Morning training experiences may also be available in Nagoya, Osaka, or Fukuoka during the Grand Sumo Tournaments.
  
  
• Observe morning training, enjoy a traditional chanko lunch, and interact with a stable master or wrestlers.
  
  
• Take part in a sumo workshop and learn more about the culture and traditions of the sport.
  
  
• Discover the art of chonmage hairstyling and traditional tokoyama tools.
  
  
• Explore the behind-the-scenes world of a sumo stable with a former wrestler or stable attendant.
  
  
• Learn how to prepare authentic chanko with guidance from a former wrestler or stable attendant.
  
  

Important Information

•  Experiences take place at an active sumo stable. Guests must follow the instructions of the guide and stable staff at all times.
•  Sumo wrestlers are professional athletes, and their training and daily activities should not be disturbed. Please remain respectful and follow the etiquette explained by your guide. 
•  Schedules and availability may vary depending on the sumo calendar, stable schedule, and other circumstances. 
•  Some experiences may be unavailable during regional tours, Grand Sumo Tournaments, or other periods when wrestlers are away from the stable. 
•  Rules regarding photography, video recording, seating, food, and guest behavior may vary depending on the experience and sumo stable. 
•  Age: 10+ required. 
•  Experiences may be changed or cancelled at short notice due to circumstances at the sumo stable. 
• Access: Located in Nishiarai, a quieter, more local area of Tokyo. Please allow extra travel time when traveling to or from Haneda or Narita Airport.
