What to Expect
You arrive in Asakusa, a district where Tokyo’s older urban character remains distinctly present, with traditional crafts, longstanding merchant streets, and one of the city’s most visited temples forming the backdrop. As you make your way to the restaurant, the neighborhood sets the tone for an experience rooted in Japanese culinary tradition. The venue is a casual sushi restaurant listed on Tabelog, welcoming and accessible rather than formal or intimidating.
Once inside, you gather around the counter or workspace as the sushi chef steps in to demonstrate nigiri technique directly in front of you. You watch the chef shape rice and place fish, then step in to replicate each movement yourself — pressing, forming, and assembling your own nigiri pieces under the chef’s guidance. A guide accompanies the session throughout, translating and helping you follow along at each stage.
You finish the class with a plate of nigiri you have shaped yourself, ready to eat on the spot. During the Q&A portion, you direct questions to the chef — about technique, ingredients, or the craft more broadly — and receive answers through the guide. You leave with a working understanding of how nigiri is constructed and the hands-on result of having made it yourself.
