You arrive at a casual sushi restaurant in Nara, a city known as one of Japan’s oldest cultural centers, where ancient temples and traditional crafts have shaped daily life for centuries. The setting is relaxed and welcoming rather than formal, giving you direct access to a working kitchen environment where a professional sushi chef is ready to guide you through one of Japan’s most recognized culinary traditions.
The chef demonstrates nigiri technique in front of you, showing how to handle rice, shape each piece, and place toppings with precision. You then follow along, repeating the process yourself with guidance from both the chef and your accompanying guide. As questions arise, you direct them to the chef through the guide, who keeps the session clear and interactive throughout.
By the end of the session, you have shaped your own nigiri pieces from start to finish and sit down to eat what you made. You leave with a practical understanding of rice handling and nigiri shaping that goes beyond observation — built through doing it yourself in a real restaurant kitchen.
