Overview
Surabaya is Indonesia’s second-largest city and the capital of East Java. It is an important port city with a strong economy, vibrant business sector, and a rich colonial history. Surabaya played a key role in Indonesia’s struggle for independence, earning it the nickname "City of Heroes." Attractions include the historic Hotel Majapahit, the Suramadu Bridge, and the lively Chinatown and Arab Quarter. The city is also famous for its local cuisine, such as rawon (beef soup) and lontong balap (rice cake with bean sprouts).
