Vientiane

Vientiane

Overview

Vientiane is the capital and largest city of Laos, situated along the banks of the Mekong River near the border with Thailand. While it maintains a relatively slow-paced and relaxed atmosphere compared to other Southeast Asian capitals, it is the political, economic, and cultural heart of Laos. The city features a mix of French colonial architecture, Buddhist temples like Pha That Luang—the most sacred site in Laos—and growing modern infrastructure. Vientiane is also known for its night markets, riverfront promenades, and its increasing role in regional diplomacy and trade.
